Travel with Koigu: Part 3

We’ve gotten through another week, with a little bit more knitting done, some ripping out of sleeves and some spinning when you need to get over the frogging that’s just happened. We’ve baked a few more loaves of bread, some Estonian specialties for our small family easter, and of course many walks around the property with the dogs! The following three colours are the beginning of the Koigu KPPPM specialty colours. These colours are one of a kind, not to be remade… so if you love them, don’t wait. A reminder that many of the shops while physically closed are willing to do mail order if contacted, so be sure to email and call to get your skeins. The KPPPM colours were inspired by a bucket list of places that the Koigu Team is interested in visiting, from then we offered these colours to stores, who then picked the colours that spoke to them. Continue your travels from home below, and be sure to tag us on Instagram if you order any of these colours!

This is one of Kersti’s bucket list trips, as well as a few others. Beyond of course going to admire the Icelandic breed of sheep and perhaps the Icelandic Sheepdog, Iceland’s geography is worth investigating. Blue Lagoon would be a must to help us all relax and soak up some great thermal energy. Then off to Thingvellir National Park and Gullfoss falls. Now unless you have knit a sweater from our KOIGU ORIGINS yarns I would suggest you travel there in the summer.

But for now, we can go virtually.

Striped Iceland

Speckled Iceland

As well we want to highlight some Icelandic Designers. Firstly, Védís Jónsdóttir has numerous knitting patterns, inspired by traditional styles and patterns from Iceland. You can see more of her patterns here >>>. For those who want to crochet their way to Iceland check out Tinna Thórudóttir Thorvaldsdóttir's, she does beautiful projects featuring many colours which would look beautiful with Koigu KPPPM. I’m particularly in love with the Terrazzo Afghan. See more here >>>. Iceland KPPPM comes in two versions, speckled and striped. You can find these colours at the following stores.

This is on Joanna’s bucket list. She loves the history and architecture. Of course, your visit would need to include a tour of Church of the Savoir on Spilled Blood, the State Hermitage Museum, The State Museum St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Palace Square and surrounding buildings. The colours used in all their architecture, the soft pastels to the vibrant mosaics is inspiring and somewhat unexpected in a country so far north. This colourway reflects the softness of those colours. You can purchase this colour on our site >>>

Moors of Scotland

I think this may be on everyone’s bucket list. Who wouldn’t want to be wandering here in another time, as an Outlander. Perhaps a chance to happen upon James Fraser, who has wandered from the highlands, very heavy sigh.

It goes without saying that there is much to enjoy in Scotland, the music, the Highland dancing, and of course the bagpipes. The country castles, the historic cities and villages and of course the Shetland islands all offer many reasons to go. Let’s not forget the kilts. The different weaves and colours lend to so much creativity. The varying depths of purple of the heather and the rugged terrain work so nicely in this colourway.

The Scottish designers, are as inspiring as another, with incredible landscapes to take inspiration from, along with beautiful yarn from the region to work with. We’re currently loving Ysolda’s designs, with knitting patterns in a variety of styles, shapes and sizes. Be sure to check out her patterns to use with the Moors of Scotland colours. Looking for crochet designs, look no further than Scottish designer Emma Lamb, who’s work with shapes will keep you busy playing with colours. You can find both the speckle and stripe colours at the following LYS’s.
