Scarlett Sweater Collaboration with Joan Ho

The Scarlett Sweater pattern came out last week, designed by Joan Ho and knit using our newest yarn Koigu Jasmine. Joan is an up and coming designer who has produced numerous designs this past year, one of which Kersti made earlier this year.

The Scarlett Sweater is an off the shoulder top with dramatically flared sleeves, waist shaping, and an adjustable tapered side sash. Both the shoulder and sleeve hems have a picot edge detail.

What are some facts we can quickly get to know you with?

I live in a suburb of Toronto, and while I was born in Hong Kong I've lived in Ontario, Canada pretty much my whole life! I have a husband, two cats, and probably way too much yarn in my home.

What started you to Knit or Crochet?

I learned to knit back in high school, but didn't start seriously getting into garment making until about 2014. I've since made probably 300-400 sweaters and tops for myself. I'm constantly running out of space, so last year I did a big destash and gave a lot of my handknits away. I didn't start crocheting until maybe 5 years ago. As a knitter first, it was extremely tricky to get the hang of it and I gave up many times before finally 'getting' it.

How many years have you been crafting?

I've been crafting my whole life, and I'm interested in a large variety of disciplines. Outside of knitting I really enjoy painting, leatherwork, and woodworking. Although these crafts are so different, there are a lot of transferable skills between them. There's no better feeling than creating with your own two hands.

How has knitting or crocheting affected your life?

Knitting has definitely made me a more patient person, and writing patterns has pushed my creativity beyond what I thought was possible. Knitting or crocheting in the evenings helps me wind down after a long day at work. It can definitely feel like an addiction at times, but it's probably one of the more healthy ones :)

Who are some of your designing idols?

Sari Nordlund and Kim Hargreaves make the most beautiful garments!

Who do you make for most?

I am an incredibly selfish knitter, so 99% of my makes are for myself. I've knit my husband only two sweaters ever, but thankfully he doesn't give me any grief over it.

What is your ideal knitting or crocheting environment?

I'm a simple woman - in bed with the TV on.

Is there any form of crafting or making your interested in trying? Ex. Embroidery.

In my craft room somewhere are two looms that I bought on separate occasions, but never got around to using. Weaving seems so meditative and the finished projects are absolutely stunning!

What are you making now?

I'm currently working on a ladies coat design, a men's sweater pattern and finishing the pattern for two hats!
